Extensive Expertise

Roma Gwynn is a biorational specialist working within this area for nearly 40 years initially as a research scientist, then working for biorational companies, and now as an independent specialist working internationally.

Dr Roma Gwynn

Roma has an MSc in Technology for Crop Protection and a PhD in Biological Control, both from Reading University, UK.

She has taken a lead role in the development and registration of many new biorational technologies in the EU and internationally, including semiochemical, botanical and microbial substances. Her expertise is in facilitating the process of getting biorational products onto the market by streamlining discovery, research, product development, registration and marketing, with particular expertise on efficacy.

Roma has been an expert for regulation of biorationals, working with OECD, the EU, EPPO and FAO/WHO and has also been involved in the development of biorational regulatory guidance, internationally. She is also a consultant on several biorational collaborative research and PhD projects and runs workshops on aspects of biorational technology for industry and universities.

Roma is Vice President of the International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA), an independent board member for the UK Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (Horticulture), an expert on the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) Panel on General Standards on Efficacy Evaluation of plant protection products, on the scientific advisory board of several biorational companies and organisations including the International Association for the Plant Protection Sciences, the IBMA representative on the FAO Global Action for Fall Armyworm Control and partner on the ASEAN FAW Project.

She is involved with several farmer and grower projects including with AHDB and Yorkshire Agriculture Farmer Scientist Network. She was editor of the internationally regarded publication ‘The Manual of Biocontrol Agents’ published by BCPC and supports CABI in the development of their Bioprotection portal.

Roma was awarded Associateship of the Royal Agricultural Societies (ARAgS) and a Fellowship of The Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA).

Publications

Roma Gwynn bridges between scientific research, commercial development and policy. This work is shared through presentations at scientific, expert and industry meetings and through publications and on-line webinars.
